On Nov. 6, SAIC Motor Co., Ltd. officially kicked off the “Green Experience Trip” at the China International Industry Fair 2007 held in Shanghai. With the theme of “Green SAIC, New Future”, SAIC Motor displayed “Shanghai brand” fuel cell car, “Shanghai brand” hybrid car, Lingyu” fuel cell car and a disassembled “Shanghai brand” fuel cell car.

Yu Zhengsheng, member of the Political Bureau of CPC and Secretary of the municipal CPC Party Committee of Shanghai, Han Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, and other leaders attended the opening ceremony. Accompanied by SAIC Board Chairman and Secretary of the SAIC CPC Party Committee Hu Maoyuan and SAIC Group President Shen Jianhua, Yu Zhengsheng and Han Zheng also inspected the new energy vehicles at SAIC show stand.

It is reported that the “Shanghai brand” fuel cell car is developed on the basis of Roewe 750-SAIC self-owned brand, and by applying the R&D achievements for new generation power system of the national 863 project. It is a concept prototype car with SAIC’s own intellectual property right in the real sense. Its vehicle performance indices have reached the national top level. The “Shanghai brand” hybrid car is the achievement of SAIC’s independent product development after it undertook the second batch of Shanghai’s project of vitalizing the city via science and technology. As an energy-saving and environmentally friendly hybrid car, it boasts many advanced functions, such as idling stall, power assistance by generator, braking energy feedback, electric driving at low speed, etc. The maximum speed exceeds 210 km, with a fuel economy by 25% for urban driving, and its emission satisfies EU VI standards. The “Lingyu” fuel cell car is a product jointly developed by SAIC and SVW together with some Chinese university and fuel cell vehicle parts suppliers. It is also an achievement of the national 863 project for developing “energy-saving cars running on new energies”. Developed on the basis of Passat Lingyu platform and adopting the hybrid powered drive-system of series connection, the car is equipped with the fuel cell stack of nation-top technology and the 350 bar high pressure hydrogen-storage system as its power source. Its interior comfort and drivability come close to those of the conventional Lingyu and the safety of hydrogen energy is up to the internationally comparable level.

The undertakings for new vehicular energy are of a far-reaching influence and grave responsibility. As one of the leading vehicle manufacturers in China, SAIC will vigorously perform its social responsibilities by following the national energy strategy and satisfying the requirement on energy saving and emission reduction. With the overall strategy for corporate development in mind, it will take the development of new energy vehicles as a key point of work as well as an important action plan to fulfill the scientific development concept for a sustainable development of the enterprise.

It is reported that following CIIF, the SAIC new energy vehicles will be on display along with the new energy vehicles developed by the world’s automotive magnates at the ninth “Challenge BBD” to be held at Shanghai International Automotive Exhibition Center in Anting, Shanghai, so as to show SAIC’s determination and strength in its effort to explore ways for enterprise development in harmony with social development.
